Working in fashion, you often get asked “where do you shop” and “who is your favourite designer”? If you are a true fashionista, there will be a multitude of answers to these questions and no doubt you will forget a few of your top picks in the haste of rattling off all the people who create, and places which sell, great designs.
But for me there is one Australian designer, whose ability to tantalize my fashion taste buds every season, can never be forgotten: Gary Bigeni.
He is the master of butter-soft leather tailoring, twisted and draped jersey, and a neutral colour pallette. His designs are clean-lined and wearable. Yet while pieces may seem simple, they include masterfully intricate detailing. Plus, no one does a geometric print like Bigeni.

Graduating from East Sydney Design Tech in 2002, it wasn’t long before he caught the attention of Australia’s fashion tastemakers. His first collection was stocked at The Corner Shop and his shows have been a must-see at Fashion Weeks around Australia since 2008.
I describe my personal style as ‘casual sophistication’, and there is not one piece created by Bigeni that doesn’t deserve a place in my wardrobe.
